Estelle Mey - Snake Review / Interview

REVIEW:

It's so rare a song gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eye but this is one of them! I feel like a proud friend! The vocal tone is so blistering but also strangely soothing. There is such an absolute feeling of rage here that gets you excited! The lyrical content is fantastic and the entire track is so well structured. I can see this artist going very far.

1. What about music makes you love it?

Whatever mood you are in, there’s music and it feels good!

2. When and why did you start making music?

I started singing when I was 8 years old, my step father brought me to a karaoke just to help being a bit less shy and then I never stopped singing ! But  I only started playing guitar and having a real interest in music when I was 19 years old, thanks to my friends in Iceland where I was living back then .

3. Could you see yourself ever doing anything else? Or is your biggest passion?

Music always comes back in one way or another, even when I do other things.

Thanks to music I can do so many other projects : I can explore other artistic  sides such as painting and designing artworks, doing DIY merch, creating videos, drawing on my guitars.. But also I can use all this work to fund my other projects , such as volunteering and humanitarian work. It also enables me to defend opinions I stand for or  support. So, really, music is kind of like the ‘’home’’ where everything I love can meet!

4. What do you think makes a song great?

I don’t know, it depends on the mood of the listener I guess, I think authenticity will be where everyone -with all our different tastes and moods- can connect to a song. There are some songs I don’t necessarily like if I think about it , but it sounds so sincere that I still like it!

5. Do you think it's important to evolve or stick with a formula?

Yes definitely , I think it's important but even necessary and just natural to evolve !  Research, try,  fail , try again differently etc etc

6. What are your plans for future releases?

SNAKE(Rejection) will be released on the 10th of March , with two videos , one lyric video and one just live . Then LATE (Dino song) a couple of months later , then the whole EP.

By the autumn other songs will be released as well.

7. What's going through your mind after you finish a song?

Genuinely excited then I keep thinking about playing it live! But I also can’t stop thinking about other things that can be changed, so I try not to, as sometimes it’s not necessarily improving the song anymore !

8. Tell us more about " SNAKE    "

‘’SNAKE(Rejection)’’  is meant to speak out loud, say no, say stop  to someone or something that makes you feel like you are slowly dying . It’s quite energetic and the vibe is inspired by that feeling full of adrenaline we can have when we are letting our rage out and just leave and move forward no matter what because we had enough !

There are hints of New punk adding fresh vibes to Thrash metal and Alternative influences .
